Capital projects · Project Controls on demand As much capacity as the project currently needs.

In a capital project, capacity requirements fluctuate widely – so not every position needs to be fully staffed for the entire duration.

What the model is

You book capacity.

In preparation, a fraction of a position is enough; in execution, you need several times as much, and towards the end considerably less again. With permanent staffing, you either pay for idle time or lack capacity at the peak.

Project Controls on demand solves this: you do not engage individual people but services in exactly the scope the project needs – from 0.1 FTE per discipline. Two degrees of freedom define the model: the mix of disciplines and the scaling of capacity across the project phases. The team is supported by our back office, which takes care of control, quality and cover.

Capacity follows the project: high in execution, reduced towards the end – and always with the disciplines that are needed at the time.

Example: a capital project with a volume of around €150 million. The share of each discipline shifts, total capacity rises into execution and falls again towards the end. Example values – we define your profile together, phase by phase, and adjust it continuously.

Which services you engage

Three disciplines, freely combined

Project controls is the umbrella term for these three services. “On demand” describes how you obtain them: individually or combined, in any ratio you choose.

  • Project SchedulingProject schedules from the idea to commissioning.
  • Cost ControlCost estimating, budget tracking, forecasts, plan-versus-actual analyses and financial closure.
  • Document ControlSetting up document management, ongoing document control and handover of the final documentation.

Each discipline has its own detail page. Project Controls on demand is the flexible way to engage them – in the scope your project needs right now.

Context

on demand or Staffing?

Both give you access to ep-cm expertise, but in different ways. Neither is better or worse – the only question is who answers for the result.

Staffing

We provide the experts.

We find vetted experts for your needs – through temporary agency work, a service contract or direct placement. You choose them and deploy them in your project.

Go to Staffing

Project Controls on demand

We deliver the result.

You receive the work as a service: a well-established, flexibly scalable team that we manage and back up with our back office. You steer the result, not the individual position.

Many clients combine both – depending on which roles they want to fill themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Questions answered

Can I start with less than one full position?

Yes. That is exactly the point: you can start from 0.1 FTE per discipline. During preparation, a fraction of a position per discipline is often enough; during execution, you scale up to several full FTEs and back down again towards the end of the project.

How does Project Controls on demand differ from conventional staffing?

With Staffing, we find the right experts for your needs – through temporary agency work, a service contract or direct placement – and you choose and deploy them. With Project Controls on demand, we deliver the work as a service: a well-practised team scales flexibly in FTE and disciplines and is supported by our back office. In short: Staffing provides the experts, on demand delivers the result at the scale your project needs right now. Many clients combine the two.

Which services can I obtain through Project Controls on demand?

Project Scheduling, Cost Control and Document Control – individually or combined, in any ratio you choose. All three disciplines belong to project controls; “on demand” describes how you obtain them. There are separate services for plant shutdowns; Project Controls on demand is the model for capital projects.

Which projects is the model suited to?

Capital projects – wherever capacity needs fluctuate strongly across the project phases and not every position has to be fully staffed for the entire duration. From the idea through execution to commissioning.

Is the back office included?

Yes. Management, quality assurance and administrative support for the deployed team are part of the model – you get results, not administrative overhead. Cover for absence or holidays is included as well.

What does Project Controls on demand cost?

We charge by the hour, by day rates or at a fixed price – we work out together which model fits. Scaling is based on the agreed FTE share per discipline – because you only pay for the capacity you actually need, there are no idle costs. The initial call and the proposal for a capacity plan are free of charge.

Project control from 0.1 FTE: when Project Controls on demand is enough and when it is not

Many smaller projects run without cost and schedule control because a full post per discipline is not worth it. It also works at a smaller scale: from 0.1 FTE.
