Why overall responsibility

Seven dimensions, one responsibility.

Safety, quality, schedule, cost, scope, risks and stakeholders depend on one another. Anyone who controls them separately loses sight of the whole.

That is where the expensive surprises arise: a schedule delay whose impact on cost nobody sees; a change order that bypasses the schedule; a risk that nobody follows up. That is why we take responsibility for the whole – as project leadership that leads, decides and enforces in your name, or as project control that keeps quality, schedule and cost under control for you while you retain leadership. In both cases you have one point of contact who does not know everything personally, but channels everything – and makes sure every question reaches the right place and comes back with an answer.

Swipe sideways to view →Seven dimensions make twenty-one interfaces – and each one is a point where a project can drift apart. In the centre they come together.

We work to established standards, but think from the execution side: as much structure as necessary, as much pace as possible. We deliver the core of project control – scheduling, cost control, document control – as separate services or flexibly through Project Controls on demand, the decision basis beforehand comes from the Feasibility Analysis, and we lead the construction phase through Site Management. The contractual side is covered by Contract & Claims Management.

Scope of services

What we take on

As project leadership or as project control – from the organisation to detailed control.

Project leadership

Overall responsibility for a fixed period: we set up the project organisation, provide the resources and lead in your name – towards designers, suppliers and authorities.

Project control

You retain leadership, we keep quality, schedule and cost under control: monitoring progress, coordinating the parties involved, preparing decisions so that you can make them with confidence.

Project organisation & governance

Roles, reporting lines and decision points are fixed at the start of the project – not only when the decision is due.

Contract & change order management

We negotiate in your name, administer contracts while safeguarding your rights and obligations, and check every change order against the schedule.

Risk & change management

Risks are assessed, decided and followed up – with an action and a date, like every other task in the project.

One point of contact

One person for the whole. They do not know everything personally – but they channel everything, and your question comes back with an answer.

What you gain

What you gain

  • One point of contactYou ask once – and the answer comes from one hand that channels all areas.
  • Reliable controlAcross all dimensions, on one shared structure.
  • TransparencyDeviations become visible before they escalate – you keep the overview at all times.
  • A dedicated project organisationThe project runs in its own organisation, independent of your operations – with capacity and experience that are not tied up there.
  • EnforcementDecisions are not only prepared but implemented – in your name and in your interest.
Our approach

From the idea to commissioning

Four steps across the entire life cycle – you can also bring us in midway through the project.

  1. 01

    Set up

Project definition, governance and gate logic: objectives, roles, decision points and reporting lines. We work to established standards (including PMI and IPMA), but pragmatically – as much structure as necessary, as much pace as possible.

  2. 02

    Plan

Safety, quality, schedule, cost and scope are built up together and related to one another. A plan is only a plan when all the parts fit together – not when every department has its own.

  3. 03

    Control

The running project is controlled in an integrated way: a schedule delay shows its impact on cost, a change order its link to the schedule, a risk its action. Deviations are visible early – early enough to take corrective action.

  4. 04

    Hand over

Commissioning and handover to operations – with complete documentation, punch-list items cleared and the lessons learned for your next project.

Context

Project leadership or project control?

Two roles and one shared model – they differ in the degree of responsibility, not in diligence.

01Project leadershipWe take on overall responsibility for a fixed period – the delegable owner’s functions lie with us. We decide within the scope of your mandate, negotiate in your name and enforce. For projects that need leadership of their own.
02Project controlYou retain leadership, we keep quality, schedule and cost under control. We coordinate the parties involved, monitor progress and prepare your decisions. For organisations that want to lead, but not control everything themselves.
03Integrated teamYour project leadership and our specialists in one team – project management, control and reporting together. For programmes with several projects, or when capacity and experience need to be added.

Frequently asked questions

Questions answered

What is the difference between project leadership and project control?

Project leadership carries overall responsibility: it leads the project, makes decisions within the mandate you give us and represents you towards designers, suppliers and authorities. Project control is the technical and commercial part below it: quality, schedule, cost and organisation are monitored and controlled, while leadership stays with you. In both roles we carry out your decisions – we do not just prepare them. We offer both, separately or together.

Over what period do you support a project?

Across the complete life cycle: from the idea through planning, control and supplier management to commissioning and handover to operations. You can also bring us in mid-project – then we first look together at where the project stands and build on that.

Do you always act in the operator’s interest?

Yes. The project leadership reports to you, not to an executing trade. ep-cm is owner-managed and does not belong to any group with executing companies – our only interest is that your project is completed safely, at the required quality, on time and within budget.

Can you take over a project that is in difficulty?

Yes. We also take over ongoing projects that need to get back on track. They then start with an honest review: where does the project stand, which contracts and dates are fixed, where is there still room to manoeuvre? On this basis, we re-plan – within your existing structures and decision-making processes.

Which standards do you work to?

Among others, PMI and IPMA – but thought through from the perspective of execution. The standard is a tool, not an end in itself: a control system that becomes a bottleneck itself has missed its purpose.

What does project management cost?

We charge by the hour, by day rates or at a fixed price – we work out together which model fits. The effort depends on the size of the project, its duration and how much your own organisation handles itself. For a first indication, the project volume and time frame are enough for us. The initial call is free of charge.
